Local Judge and County Commissioner Decides it’s Time to Go Back to Work
Former St. Lucie County Judge and County Commissioner Cliff Barnes has decided to give up the life of leisure he has enjoyed since his retirement, and get back to work.
Barnes was first elected County Judge in St. Lucie County in 2004, filling the seat vacated by the retirement of Judge James Midelis. He was re-elected in 2010, receiving nearly 60% of the vote. Barnes retired in December of 2015.
During his time on the bench, Barnes presided over the DUI prosecutions of Partridge Family heartthrob David Cassidy and Major League Baseball star Miguel Cabrera.
Prior to becoming a judge, Barnes served St. Lucie County for twelve years as a county commissioner.
Barnes has returned to the practice of law and is affiliated with the Kessler Law Firm, whose offices are in Fort Pierce and Key West.
Barnes was recently seen in the courtroom of Circuit Judge Barbara Bronis, protecting the rights of a local resident against the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
